My Experience

With an undergraduate degree in English education (United States International University) and graduate work in journalism (Boston University), as well as decades in the field, I have excellent writing and editing skills supported by a unique ability to listen between the lines, creating content that excels at meeting clients' goals. I'm passionate about writing ... it's in my blood ... it's who I am. It's all I've ever wanted to do. Recently, someone asked me if I could have any job in the world, what would it be. I didn't hesitate. I'd do exactly what I do now - write! Since I could write sentences, I knew I wanted to be a professional writer when I grew up. By age 9, I was writing books. Okay, not any that ever got published, but they were still books. In those days, I pieced together my stories with colorful yarn woven through hole punches on the left side of the pages as I created my elaborate stories.

My paid career in writing began when I was 19 years old. I was lucky to land a job at a public relations firm in Century City, California. I met and wrote feature articles and press releases for many celebrities including Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Cindy Williams, Art Linkletter, Cher, and Liberace among others. During my time with that firm, I published my first two articles in a national magazine, Coronet (now defunct), about Elvis Presley and Cher. I majored in English education because I thought I wanted to be a high school teacher while, at the same time, I would write a best-selling novel during my free summers. But I quickly discovered I didn't have the fortitude to teach teenagers. Good thing for them, I quit. Thus, I transitioned into copywriting and creative director positions.

Early in my career, I was employed by three major advertising agencies as a senior copywriter and creative director. I later operated my own advertising, marketing and sales promotion company specializing in direct response marketing with many major national accounts. For corporations and institutions such as Apple Computer, New England Telephone  (Verizon), BayBank of Boston, Harvard University, National Fire Protection Association, Fidelity Investments and Technical Publishing, I have produced effective, successful copy.

With my thorough understanding of the marketing and sales process, I can tailor my writing to compel consumers to respond in the manner needed and expected. For corporations and institutions such asApple Computer, New England Telephone (Verizon), BayBank of Boston, Harvard University, National Fire Protection Association, Fidelity Investments and Technical Publishing, I produced copy which achieved their goals. While living in Boston, I wrote for The Boston Globe and The Boston Phoenix. Since moving to Pittsburgh, I've enjoyed my time as a sub-contracted newspaper reporter and feature writer for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Courier and Pittsburgh City Paper. As a news writer, I've covered a variety of topics including racial crime, the death penalty, child abuse, astronomy, local politics, municipalities, school districts and so on. I also spent 15 years managing the marketing of a criminal defense law practice where I became skilled at writing legal motions and briefs.

Recently, I finished my first book: Out of the Darkness: Transforming Beyond Depression, which is pending national publication.
